Sound for Performance & Film

Theatrical Design Approach

My approach to theatrical sound design is to ensure that every sound belongs within the world of the play. I identify opposing forces within the work and translate them into distinct sonic languages that shape and support the piece. Selected focuses influence tone and texture in  the score, soundscapes, and sound effects created for the work.

Haunted Soundscapes

Something Is Out There (2026)

For Something Is Out There (2026), Fort Wayne Dance Collective's Halloween Show, I created a series of atmospheric soundscapes to be used under voiceovers and occasional music during the interludes. The design moves between familiar and unsettling environments, using layered sound effects and shifting textures to establish each setting while building suspense and unease throughout the performance.

Machinal:
Theatrical Concept Design

For Machinal (1928), by Sophie Treadwell, I designed by using repetitive structure and heightened tension to mirror the mechanization of human life and contrasts of rigid, industrial textures with moments of fragile, human expression.

Machinal - Scene 1  Sound Design
Machinal - Scene 2 Sound Design
Machinal - Scene 4 Sound Design

A young woman is introduced within her workplace, where repetitive routine and social expectation begin to define her existence. The design adapts the surrounding noises into a rhythm that builds in intensity up til the young woman bursts into a monologue, followed by a warping of the existing design.

She agrees to marriage, despite internal hesitation and disconnection. The sound design focused on building the space using sound cues to indicate changes in the space, and using those surroundings during warped shifts to represent her mental state.

Now trapped within domestic life, her psychological state begins to fracture as the tension between her inner self and external reality becomes increasingly unbearable. The sound design focused on building the world offstage utilizing the cold rigid structure of the world.
