Sound for Performance & Film

Sound for Dance

I build sound alongside choreography, letting each shape the other as the piece develops. Short ideas are tested and reshaped as the movement takes form. Timing, texture, and transitions come directly from what’s happening in the space.

We work until the sound and dance breathe together, a process that stays open and responsive, leading to work where sound and movement feel naturally intertwined.

around & back again (2025)

Exploring the push and pull of leaving and being left behind, "around and back again" flows with spirals and repeating movement. To capture that foundational movement, I composed lots of circular melodies and patterns, with breaks in repetition emphasizing the ways sounds can spiral out and break apart. Held together by an original melody, this piece is an emotional rollercoaster with a push and pull of its own.

In The Wake (2024)

"In The Wake" explores the stages of grief and working through a traumatic event as a group. To emphasize this idea sonically, I focused on crafting what each stage of grief would sound like, which dictated the order of the sounds in the piece. Choreography inspired shifts changes in each section and transitions between them.

Cinematic Score and Sound Design

Cinematic design can enhance emotion and strengthen the impact of each moment. Through layered soundscapes, transitions, and detailed effects, I create a cohesive sonic world that supports and elevates the visual narrative.

Machinal:
Theatrical Concept Design

My approach to theatrical sound design is to ensure that every sound belongs within the world of the play. I identify opposing forces within the work and translate them into distinct sonic languages that shape and support the piece.

For Machinal (1928), by Sophie Treadwell, I designed by using repetitive structure and heightened tension to mirror the mechanization of human life and contrasts of rigid, industrial textures with moments of fragile, human expression.

A young woman is introduced within her workplace, where repetitive routine and social expectation begin to define her existence. The design adapts the surrounding noises into a rhythm that builds in intensity up til the young woman bursts into a monologue, followed by a warping of the existing design.

She agrees to marriage, despite internal hesitation and disconnection. The sound design focused on building the space using sound cues to indicate changes in the space, and using those surroundings during warped shifts to represent her mental state.

Now trapped within domestic life, her psychological state begins to fracture as the tension between her inner self and external reality becomes increasingly unbearable. The sound design focused on building the world offstage utilizing the cold rigid structure of the world.
